...didn't know what Hogmany was, other than that it was something Sc_ttish. wikipedia brought me up t'speed and - lo! - the custom of "first-footing" is something observed by my grandmother / so i guess it made its way to Southern Appalachia by way of Ulster.
btw: have you tried black-eyed peas mixed with couscous? not bad.
